Just a few minutes from Caen, step back in time to the Middle Ages and discover the Carolingian village, the Viking trading post and the motte castle. Three worlds to visit for a closer look at the daily lives of 10th-century men and women.

Over the three days of the builders? festival, numerous workshops and events are on offer:

- "Bring your stone to the building". Whether you're ploughing, planing, building a dry-stone wall or making bricks for the church, come and contribute your energy and leave your mark on Ornavik by taking part in its construction.

- "The secrets of the builders". Around the church building site, listen to carpenters and stoneworkers as they learn or re-learn various techniques: shingle roofing, stonecutting and round arches. On the Viking counter: learn how to thatch a roof.

- "Budding builders. Throughout the park, youngsters can join our animators for workshops on erecting palisades, Viking tents and fire boxes, as well as listening to tales, solving puzzles and treasure hunts.

- "In the castle farmyard". In the newly-opened ducal space, discover the world of knights around the motte castle, mint your own medieval coins and learn about the art of basket-making.

- "The fisherman?s boatyard. On the Viking counter, a ship is under construction. Come and find out how the shipyard was set up and how the Viking ship was built.
